In the early morning sky a mysterious event occurred. Over three dozen residents observed a large, glowing fireball the size of a full moon, traverse the sky slowly. The overwhelming opinion was that it was a meteor. This opinion was backed up when a huge gouge, 300 cubic yards in size, was found in a near by hillside with trees blown over 300 yards away. However, there was no meteoric rubble to be found.
This gave rise to a theory that a build up of subterranian gases had been ignited by electrical charges caused by the rapid escape, thus forming a fireball that streaked across the sky. There were also conspiracy theories involving the military and aliens.
